Ten Ways to Get Your Homes HVAC System Ready for the Spring

|

The springtime is the perfect time to start deep cleaning in Daytona Beach. Many will take this time to start decluttering, dusting, and making sure dirt is removed from major appliances in and outside the home.

As the weather begins to get warmer you will also need to start turning your heat off and your air conditioning on. While this temperature switch begins to happen, we’ve laid out 10 things that you should start doing today in order to maintain the longevity and efficiency of your home’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system.

#1 Schedule Your Spring A/C Maintenance

It is essential to schedule at least 2 HVAC tune-ups per year. One in the Spring and another before the winter. This ensures that your home’s comfort equipment is in top shape before the most extreme weather changes.

#2 – Check Your Thermostat Function

This is probably one of the easiest things you can do on this list. Making sure that your thermostat is reading an accurate temperature is very important. For instance, if it says your home is 70 degrees but the temperature inside is really 80 degrees this could mean that there is a possible HVAC failure. Catching this early could save you lots of money down the road.

#3 – Clean around the outdoor equipment

Branches, leaves, debris, and other particles surrounding your outdoor air conditioning equipment could potentially lead to some expensive problems in the future if ignored. Be diligent in removing these items from around your system so that it doesn’t have to work harder than they should cool your home.

#4 – Clean the air ducts

Having dirty air ducts can not only negatively impact the airflow from your HVAC system, but it could also create a home for microbial growth. As you probably know, mildew and fungi can be toxic for humans and animals.

#5 – Turn Your A/C System On

This may feel like a, “no duh” moment, but believe It or not, many people don’t know that they should test the air conditioning system before actually having to use it regularly. For instance, It may still be cold outside in [[target location]] however, you should turn the air conditioning on for 30 minutes every day just so that your HVAC system isn’t overwhelmed when you go from no a/c to running it every day.

#6 – Seal Up Any Leaks or Cracks

Winter weather can be rough on the exterior of your home. It’s important that you do an overall check to see if there are any problem leak areas in your home. You should check your windows, doors, and the attics and/or basement for any leaks or cracks.

#7 – Change Air Filters

Changing your air filters at least once every 30 days is essential to make sure that the air that you breathe in your home is cleaner. Having a dirty air filter can cause your HVAC system to work harder than it should. That can cost you in the future!

#8 – Remove Any Condenser Covers

Many homeowners in New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater, and St Augustine choose to cover their outdoor system to protect it from cooler weather. As we enter the warmer months you want to make sure that there is nothing covering the unit. Turning the system on with a cover still on may cause severe damage to your system.

#9 – Install a Programmable Thermostat

If you don’t already have one, we highly recommend investing in a programmable thermostat, Not only could it help to make sure your HVAC system is running more efficiently but it could also help you save on energy bills in the future.
