Tropical storms and hurricane season is here for the Florida summer. Its is important to prepare your air conditioning unit in the event of heavy rain or storms that frequent Central Florida during this time of year. Here are a few tips to help protect your air conditioner in the event of an emergency weather situation.
Inspect your outdoor unit to ensure is firmly attached to its base. If any bolts or screws are loose, tighten them up. If you know a heavy storm is on its way, you can always reinforce holding it down using bolts, straps, or rope.
In the event of a hurricane or heavy storm, turn off you’re a/c unit from the thermostat. If possible, turn off the fuse connected to your unit (usually located in your fuse box). This can help prevent the inconvenience and danger of having to do so in harsh conditions.
Clear the area around your outdoor a/c unit. Harsh winds can blow objects into the unit and cause damage.
If a tropical storm forces water into your outdoor a/c unit, do not turn the power to your air conditioner back on.
